Have you always wanted to learn to dance?
Well, this is your chance!
WHAT: Join us in West Seattle at the Alki Masonic Center on first and third Sundays every month for an absolutely FREE beginner West Coast Swing partner dance class. No registration or partner required, plus you'll get into the social dance for no cost too (yes, both are FREE)! Full event schedules of our regular events here.
HOW:
Arrive to Alki Masonic Center (free private parking lot available)
Greet the front desk volunteer and let them know you'd like to sign in for the beginner lesson (no need to pay!)
Wait for the dance instructor to greet you to go upstairs
Learn West Coast Swing (WCS), a modern & smooth improvisational partner swing dance style that is danced to a variety of music genres like pop, Top 40, R&B, rock n roll, country, blues, and many more
Come back downstairs and dance for no cost with friendly local dancers (often called ‘Westies’)
WHEN: Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month
5:30 pm FREE West Coast Swing Lesson starts
6:30 pm Lesson ends & FREE Social Dance starts (that’s right, absolutely $0 for your first time)
WHO: Come with just yourself (no partner is required!) or bring a significant other, a friend, or neighbor to start dancing TODAY.
WHERE: Alki Masonic Center 4736 40th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116
Our Free Class
NOTE: this free beginner class is a CRASH COURSE designed to help you get started and try this dance out on the social dance floor. If you like this dance, see the NEXT STEPS below.
For specific event details like verifying if there’s a lesson and full event schedule see our SSDC Sundays calendar.
If we cancel a dance, that is usually because there is a local weekend event happening (e.g. Easter Swing, Retaliation Swing, Sea to Sky). These events will usually have a Free Beginner Bootcamp (2-3 hr class). We will make an announcement in that same Sundays calendar - watch out for those.
Next Steps
We highly recommend to take a Basics series (typically 4-6 weeks) from any of the teachers in the area. Once you are comfortable in all the basic patterns, you will be ready to take All-Level workshops at SSDC.
