Seattle-Area Weekend Events

• Choreo Camp — Seattle, WA · late January / early February · not a competitive event

  A five-day choreography intensive from Movement + Lab, run by Sean and Alyssa at Reverie Ballroom on Capitol Hill with a second room at Dance Underground. Learn original choreography from top choreographers across daily guided practice and open practice time, then perform it on one of three stage nights with professional video. Open from Newcomer through All Star; most tracks are partnered, with some solo options.

• Easter Swing — Bellevue, WA · Easter weekend (March/April) · comps up to Tier 5

  SSDC's own annual convention, run entirely by volunteers, at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. Nearly 30 workshops, a free two-hour beginner bootcamp, 18+ competitions (WSDC J&Js, non-WSDC strictlies and Rising Star events), and 25+ hours of social dancing across four nights — plus hand-blown glass egg trophies.

• Seattle Swingin' Summer — Seattle, WA · Weekend after July 4 · not a WSDC registry event

  The summer event from Retaliation Dance Productions — workshops with guest instructors plus competitions.

• Retaliation Swing — Seattle, WA · September · comps up to Tier 4

  Run by Retaliation Dance Productions and now part of the Rising Star Tour. Workshops and intensives, a full competition slate, a free beginner track, and late-night social dancing.

• Sea to Sky — SeaTac, WA · November · comps up to Tier 5

  WSDC Jack & Jills and strictlies, Rising Star Tour events, specialty classes and seminars, judges training, a Saturday night show, and free Saturday-afternoon intro classes for newcomers.

• SwitchOn Seattle — Seattle, WA · November · just-for-fun comps

  A specialty weekend, and one of the first worldwide focused on switch & steal — changing between lead and follow during a single song!

Oregon

• SwingCouver — Portland, OR area · January · comps up to Tier 4 · ~3 hr drive

  "The BEST West Coast Swing event of the Northwest." Instruction from top pros, competitions, intensives and social dancing. The host hotel moves year to year but stays in the Portland metro area, so check the site for the current venue.

• Rose City Swing — Tigard, OR (Portland metro) · late February / early March · comps up to Tier 5 · ~3 hr drive

  Now in its twelfth year, at the Embassy Suites Portland Washington Square. Known for its novelty contests (Doppelganger Strictly, Switch-It-Up Strictly), a champions pro show, free workshops alongside premium intensives, and a late-night switch & steals room.

• SOswing — Ashland, OR (Rogue Valley) · third weekend in May · comps up to Tier 5 · ~7 hr drive

  "All Things West Coast Swing in Southern Oregon's Rogue Valley." Workshops and competitions, a free beginner boot camp, a Friday wine tasting trip, and a themed Saturday night party.

• The Bend Connection — Bend, OR · late August · comps up to Tier 4 · ~6 hr drive

  A WSDC event on the Deschutes River that puts connection first — workshops, competitions and "a TON of social dancing," a free beginner track, and daytime hiking and floating between dances.

British Columbia, Canada

Crossing into Canada requires a passport, enhanced driver's license or NEXUS card, and the trip includes a BC Ferries sailing to Vancouver Island — book the ferry ahead.

• Nanaimo Dance Fusion — Nanaimo, BC · late May · comps up to Tier 3 · ~4–5 hr including ferry

  Three days at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre with three dedicated ballrooms: line dance, West Coast Swing, and a fusion room running salsa, bachata, swing, zouk and country. Instructors come from around the world to teach, judge and perform.
