About our guest | Phoenix Grey (He/Him)
Phoenix Grey is a Portland-based dancer known in the West Coast Swing community for his proficiency in both leading and following. In 2013, he created the group "Degendering West Coast Swing" to rally support for the removal of gender restrictions from WCS competitions. With the support of the community and his predecessors, the WCS circuit began to remove the gender restrictions. From there, he became one of the first dancers to earn an Allstar ranking in both roles.
Having walked the "walk-walk" on both sides, his teaching style focuses on connection, technique, and effective partnering. Phoenix is celebrated for his playful musicality and shameless confidence on the dance floor. He now spends multiple weekends each month traveling, teaching, competing, DJing, and judging around the world.

2:00 pm Open Floor Practice: Practice solo or bring a partner. Need a space to teach a private lesson? - feel free to use the space, no floor fee. Try our Facebook Practice Club group to look for partners!
3:30 pm Register, warm up, and volunteer to set up
4:00 pm Intermediate WCS Workshop with Phoenix Grey: “It’s All in the Hips”
Prerequisite: No WSDC points required to attend. Make sure you are very comfortable with all basic patterns and a few variations of each (Push, Pass, Tuck, Whip).
5:00 pm All Levels WCS Workshop with Phoenix Grey: “Deconstructing Whips”
Prerequisite: Know basic patterns (Push, Pass, Tuck, Whip).
5:30 pmFREE 1 Hour Beginner Lesson (upstairs) with Lan and Igor
6:00 pm Social dance starts, with DJ Hottia
6:00 pm POTLUCK starts - BRING YOUR FAVORITE DISH TO SHARE!
